Özet: The aim of this study is to examine Islamism as one of the leading political movements together with Turkism and Ottomanism aiming to save the Ottoman Empire, within the concepts of ‘memory’, ‘forgetting’ and ‘cancellation’ in the transition as the westernization from the Empire to the Republic and finally to the last political period. Certainly, the object of our investigation as Islamism is quite extensive and controversial due to its historical origins and also due to the interpretation of this history from non Islamic ideologies as well. In our study, we specify Islamism as a modern political movement emerged as a historical-conceptual solution after 1830’s which may be called the age of ideologies. For this reason, we have utilized the necessary concepts and references within the limits of a historical-philosophical frame. Our main thesis is that the premium and ultimate political scene is the memory and the best way to understand the transition from the Empire to the Republic is only possible by tackling with the memory problem.
