Özet: Today, the target of the research and development activities is to improve the energy efficiencies both in upstream and downstreamprocesses. Researchers investigate the efficient, economical, safe and environmental friendly alternative downstream techniques to overcome thephysical and chemical bottlenecks of the classic downstream processes. Pervaporation is an effective and energy saving membrane separationprocess to separate azeotrope mixtures, close boiling mixtures or isomers. It is also applied to remove the volatile organic compounds from wateror to separate organic-organic mixtures. The separation efficiency by a pervaporation system is primarily a function of the membrane materialand the feed species. Feed temperature, feed composition, and permeate pressure have secondary effects. Permeation rate is inverselyproportional to membrane thickness but selectivity is said to be independent of thickness. Process temperatures affect both pervaporationmembrane selectivity and permeant flux. Hydrophilic, hydrophobic and organophilic membranes are used in pervaporation applications.
