Özet: Organic and geometric orders are two basic settlement design patterns have been observed on the world throughout centuries. Various civilizations embedded these two basic urban patterns as cultural products on Erzurum’s urban space in different historical periods one after the other. Erzurum, as the focus of present study, is a city in Anatolia that has hosted different cultures beginning from the early periods of settlement history. The aim of this research is to present transformation process of Erzurum, from a city with existing organic pattern to a modern city with geometric urban pattern, as a part of the cultural transformation. Accordingly, dual urban pattern in Erzurum is introduced upon the creative power of this duality that is a cultural transformation called as Turkish Modernization within the context of present study.
