Özet: In this study, an optimal variable structure power system stabilizer (VS-PSS) is proposed in order to improve dynamic stability of single machine infinite bus (SMIB) system. Model uncertainties, parameter variations, and external disturbances always exist in power systems. Therefore, variable structure control (VSC) is considered as a robust control method for designing PSS. Performance and robustness of VSC system depend on switching function and feedback gains. That's why; they are optimized via genetic algorithm (GA). The proposed VS-PSS is based on a state-space model which derived from Philps-Heffron model. It is seen that the VS-PSS improve the dynamic stability of power system better than conventional PSS according to simulation studies done under different external disturbance conditions.
