Özet: The general purpose of this study is to find out the students’ views on learner autonomy in terms of various variables at English Language Teaching Department of Balıkesir University Necatibey Education Faculty. This study was conducted with 252 students of the English Language Teaching Department as preservice teachers at Balıkesir University Necatibey Education Faculty.The data was collectedthrough the scale adapted by Sabancı (2007) from “Learner Autonomy: The Teachers’ Views” which was developed by Camirelli in 1999. The findings based on preservice teachers’ views were analyzed by calculating frequencies and percentages. Besides, for the comparison of preservise teachers’ learning type and gender among eachother, the independent-sample t-test taking part in parametric analysis techniques was used.This study revealed that the majority of the preservice teachers participated in the study had the opinion that it was appropriate to foster learner autonomy in terms of these aspects; finding out their own learning methods, formulating their own explanations, interaction pattern, course content, self-assessment and course objectives.
