Özet: Self-care skills are life skills that an individual of any age should have. These skills are also very important for the individual's physical, emotional, and social development and life in these areas. We are experiencing how important it is to keep the body clean from the self-care skills of people of all ages, especially these days when the world is struggling with COVID-19. In particular, we see how important hand washing self-care skills are in order for human beings to protect themselves from COVID-19. In Turkey, noting that the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health Science Board Covidien COVİD-19 in the first expression guidelines for coping with self-care skills to use the hand wash draws. Self-care skills need to be learned at a very early age. The environment in which self-care skills are learned is the family, and the first teachers in the family are parents. The study aims to determine whether there is a difference in the expectations of mothers for self-care skills of girl and boy children who are 60- 66 months old. This research was carried out with the descriptive quantitative research model. The study group consists of 60 children of 60-66 months old (30 girls, 30 boys) that continue the independent kindergartens in Muş town Hasköy province at 2018-2019 academic year and their mothers. In the study, the surveys that are formed as appropriate to articles of The Scale of Preschool Self-Care Skills which is developed by Çetinkaya (2012), are used as data collection. The researchers made face-to-face interviews with the mothers to understand their expectations for self-care abilities of their children, these interviews were made in two sessions. In the first session, the mothers were asked to answer the question “Does a 5 years old girl do………….?“. By this question, they are expected to give answer to the statements of survey. From this session, the data that includes expectation of mothers for girls are collected. After two weeks, the second section is made with same process for boys by giving instructions. The quantitative data were analysed through the chi-square test of independence. The results of the research showed that there was a statistically significant difference in mothers 'expectations regarding girls' and boys’ 'self-care skills only in terms of organizational skills in favour of the girls.
