Özet: While feminist theories have differentiated approaches within themselves the concept of social gender in terms of covering the feminist theories, as well as establishing common criticism through identities differentiated by "sex" in social life and the focus on the issue of 'gender'. In the context of gender and music, it is possible to carry out various researches with diffe- rent perspectives, especially musical instruments, performance and perfor- mance studies. The fundamental question that guide this article are: What does gender theory mean in terms and what are the traces of this theory in the studies carried out on the basis of disciplines of musicology and ethno- musicology in Turkey? In the research, the ideas related to the above ques- tions were discussed with the data analysis method by reviewing the litera- ture on social gender in the musical context.
