Özet: In this study, modelling habitat suitability for red deer (Cervus elaphus) using environmental variables and obtaining habitat suitability maps were aimed in Eskişehir- Çatacık region. First, the study area was divided into cells with 100*100 meters. The 60 cells were selected as sample plots and pellet count, other sign and tracks of red deer were recorded. Then, bioclimatic maps and data of environmental variables are produced for the study area. The relationships between present data of red deer and 18 environmental variables in 60 plots were analyzed by using MaxEnt method. Thus, ROC values of 0,793 for education data set and 0,760 for test data set are determined for best habitat suitability model. Environmental variables affecting species distribution of red deer were specified as; annual average temperature, slope, topographic position index, forest road intensity and vegetation. Therefore, habitat preferences and territory usage of red deer in Çatacık region were determined in the study. Habitat suitability maps that were organized for the first time for red deer have the potential of contribution to organizing forest management, game management plans and protection of biological diversity.
