Özet: The spatialization of old age describes a novel situation that has appeared as a result of the increasing number of elderly individuals living in apartment buildings, streets, and neighborhoods. In addition to presenting how the daily lives of elderly individuals are shaped through taking one apartment building as an example located in the Moda district of Kadiköy, Istanbul, this study aims to examine the relationship that the elderly living in this same district have with each other and the greater community. Since the district of Moda has a high population of elderly individuals, this speci c apartment building’s location on the street and in the district and the fact that it houses an almost entirely elderly population were in uential while choosing it for examination. Following a qualitative case study design, in-depth interviews were conducted with 14 people to collect their observations on the apartment building, the street, and the neighborhood. Descriptive analysis was used to evaluate the data in line with the concepts of strategy and tactics developed by Michel de Certeau. The results of the study indicate that although elderly are able to take advantage of important aging-in-place opportunities, the dynamics that new urbanization brings to the process of spatializing old age is observed to limits their abilities to develop tactics.
