Özet: The basis of energy policies in the European Union (EU) has been officially laid with the establishment of the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC). With the establishment of the Community, opportunities such as exchange of information, share of experience, and joint action have emerged in the field of nuclear energy among the member states of the Union. Since the establishment of EAEC, the approach of both countries and the EU to energy policies has changed. Nuclear energy, which was attracted by most of the member countries at one time, is no longer in demand because it is not environmentally friendly by both EU institutions and some member states. Great Britain, which became a member of the Union later and has played a decisive role in the field of energy policies and climate protection since its membership, has left EU with a referendum (Brexit), by doing what no member state has done before. The separation of Great Britain from the EU has not only weakened the Union from the economic and political perspective, but also signalled that there will be major changes in the field of energy and climate policies. Great Britain, who left the EU with Brexit, had the opportunity to act as desired in the field of energy and climate policies. Of course, the same is valid for the EU. However, Great Britain no longer has the guarantee of the EU. On the other hand, the EU is deprived of a member who is very active in the field of energy and climate policies.
