Özet: Aim: The aim of the study is to determine the opinions of university students in health-related departments and non-health departments about elderly abuse and neglect. Material and Methods: The study was carried out with a total of 141 students studying at the Elderly Care Program of the Vocational School of Health Services, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Sciences in Manisa Celal Bayar University. University students participating in the study were divided into two groups as students in health and non-health departments. The research data were collected by using a questionnaire. Results: The mean age of the students was 21.98 ± 1.21 and 63.8% were in the 18-22 age group. 68.7% of the students are from the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, 1.3% are from the Department of Elderly Care and 30% are from the Faculty of Sports Sciences. When the answers given by the groups were examined, 34.4% of the group in the health departments and 90.5% of the other group answered yes to the question ‘Do elderly people constitute an obstacle for the life of family members?’, 84.8% of the group in the health department and 71.4% of the group in the non-health department answered yes to the question of giving sufficient confidence to the elderly individual. 27.3% of the group in the health-related section and 81% of the group in the non-health section think that they neglect the elderly. Conclusion: According to these results, it is seen that students who are studying in health-related departments are more sensitive to the elderly and they are more aware.
