Özet: Turkey has a rich variety and production potential oriented traditional agricultural products and food. Traditional food and agricultural products contribute to the promotion and economy of the country / territory to which it belongs and are used as a significant tool in creating differentiation especially in global markets. Basic regulation related with the protection of geographical indications in Turkey has been provided by Decree Law No. 555 until year of 2017 and has been provided by 6769 numbered Code of Industrial Ownership since then. The "National Geographical Indications Strategy Paper and Action Plan" has been prepared regarding the importance of the matter and has been published in 4 July 2015 dated official gazette and this has been a significant development in determination of national policies. In this study; geographical signs in Turkey, the situation of traditional foods and the significance of geographical signs in the EU process have been examined.
