Özet: With the French campaign in Egypt in 1798, the modernization process began here. After the French came to Egypt, they built various research centers and worked to examine the physical and cultural structure of the Egyptian geography. In the following processes, Western-style schools were opened there, and students were sent from Egypt to Europe to benefit from the experiences of the West. With these stages, scientific and cultural relations between the West and the Arab world, in particular Egypt, gained momentum. One of the fields in which these relations emerged has been literature. With the translation and adaptation activities carried out from Western works, the cultural life in Egypt gained vitality. As a result of this, literary genres such as short story, theatre and novel in the modern sense were transferred to Arabic literature, and literary writers who produced works in these fields emerged. Egyptian writer Muḥammad Taymūr, who came to the field of literature in the first quarter of the 20th century, left a mark in modern Arabic literature with his works in the fields of short story and theater under the influence of Western literature. In this study, firstly, the life and literary adventure of Muḥammad Taymūr will be discussed. Afterwards, the themes that he dealt with in his short stories will be analyzed and in this context, it will be tried to shed light on his mental world.
