Özet: The fact that the increasingly widespread technological tools become an extension of daily life also affects working life. These effects have positive sides as well as some negative sides. One of these negative effects is the private use of the internet by the workers in the workplace. Employees’ private use of the internet is generally undesirable for employers. The employer may allow the employee or impose limitations on this issue. Limitations can be imposed through employment contract, collective bargaining agreement, workplace internal regulation, employer instructions and workplace practices. Internet use for private purposes has various consequences for the employment contract. These results are generally; the penalty for deducting wages, various disciplinary penalties, the liability of the worker for the damage caused and the termination of the employment contract. In this article, use of the internet for private purposes was explained after the necessary clarification on the contents of the concept. Subsequently; Various possibilities regarding the freedom of private use of the internet in the workplace will be discussed. Finally, the possible consequences of using the internet for private purposes in terms of business relations will be examined and the issue will be enlightened.
